Lyman County Woman Pleads Guilty to First Degree Manslaughter
PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today Whitney Renae Turney, 27, Oacoma, entered a guilty plea to one count of first degree manslaughter, class C felony, up to life imprisonment in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine.
Charges stem from an incident on September 4, 2015, in Oacoma, S.D. resulting in the stabbing death of Calvin James Shields. Shield’s body was recovered on Monday, September 7, 2015.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 23, 2016, 1:30 PM at the Lyman County Courthouse.
Agencies assisting in this investigation include the Chamberlain Police Department, Brule County Sheriff’s Office, Lyman County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Indian Affairs, South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Division of Criminal Investigation. This case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office and the Lyman County States Attorney.
