Attorney General’s Office Releases Officer Involved Shooting Summary

 
PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of Earl W. Hicks on February 28, 2016, in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation at the request of the Rapid City Police Department.

The incident occurred on February 28, 2016, following a Rapid City Police Department response to an active shooter incident at the Cornerstone Mission in Rapid City.

“It is my conclusion as Attorney General that Officer Barry Young was justified in firing his weapon and using lethal force. I would like to thank the Rapid City Police Department and the Officer for his service and complete cooperation in this investigation and offer my condolences to the family of Earl Hicks for their loss,” stated Attorney General Jackley.
