PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley and Meade County States Attorney Kevin Krull announced today that Berton Toavs, 33, Faith, was sentenced to 110 years for the first degree manslaughter of Eliza Edgins and 100 years for the first degree manslaughter of Nathan Gann. Toavs pled guilty to the both counts of first degree manslaughter on December 21, 2016. The sentences will run consecutively for a total of 210 years. Toavs will be parole eligible in 120 years.
Charges stem from a shooting that occurred at Toavs’ residence in 2016 resulting in the deaths of Eliza Edgins and Nathan Gann.
This case was prosecuted by the Meade County States Attorney and Attorney General’s Office and investigated by Meade County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
