Lake County Standoff Continues

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley, McCook County Sheriff Mark Norris and Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg confirm that several law enforcement agencies continue to negotiate with an armed subject in rural Lake County.
The incident that began with a traffic stop at approximately 1:36 a.m. this morning and resulted in a McCook County Deputy being shot remains as a standoff situation. The subject has been identified as Matthew James Rumbolz, 37, Montrose.
Assisting agencies include: Lake County Sheriff’s Office, McCook County Sheriff’s Office, Miner County Sheriff's Office, Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, Sioux Falls Police Department, Codington County SWAT, Lincoln County Emergency Management, McCook County Emergency Management, Minnehaha County Emergency Management, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, Madison Regional Health, South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
