PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that State Penitentiary inmate Spencer Brown, 48, was sentenced today for possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, by an inmate.
Brown was sentenced to 5 years with 3 suspended to run consecutive to his original sentence.
On January 28th, 2017, Brown was returning to his unit at the penitentiary, when law enforcement observed a baggie drop from his hand prior to being scanned. The baggie contained approximately .92 grams of methamphetamine.
This case was investigated by Special Security at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
