PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that Kevin Christopher Tripp, 25, inmate at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, has been arrested by complaint on one count of attempted first degree murder, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine and one count of aggravated assault against Department of Corrections employee, class 2 felony, punishably by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine.
Charges stem from an incident at the penitentiary on Monday, October 23, 2017, where Tripp allegedly physically attacked a Department of Corrections employee.
Tripp is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
This case is being investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
