PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that State Penitentiary inmate Avugwi Zion Alvarez, 26, was sentenced yesterday for assault by inmate, intentionally causing contact with bodily fluids or human waste.
Alvarez was sentenced to 5 years with 3 suspended to run concurrent to his original sentence. 
On September 9, 2015, Alvarez threw a cup of urine and feces on a correctional officer.
This case was investigated by Special Security at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and the Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
