PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that Kevin Christopher Tripp, 25, inmate at the State Penitentiary, was indicted on one count of attempted first degree murder, class 2 felony, punishable by 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine and one count of aggravated assault against department of corrections employee, class 2 felony, punishable by 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine.
Charges stem from an incident at the penitentiary on Monday, October 23, 2017, where Tripp allegedly physically attacked a DSS employee that was working at the penitentiary.
Tripp is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
This case was investigated by Special Security at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and the Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
