PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that Spink County Deputies saved the life of a 13-year-old Redfield juvenile with the use of Narcan on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

“Equipping emergency responders and law enforcement personnel with Narcan provides an irreplaceable tool to combat overdoses,” said Jackley. “The Deputies ability to recognize the signs of an overdose and their quick response saved a 13-year-old life.”

The Attorney General’s Office sponsored legislation in 2015 that would enable all first responders to carry naloxone, a medicine to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses.

Law enforcement agencies can request Narcan from the Attorney General’s drug control fund to assist their agencies to fund this overdose reversal drug.

Agencies that have been awarded Narcan funding include:

Minnehaha County SO $1,875.00

South Dakota Highway Patrol $13,875.00

Sioux Falls PD $4,500.00

Union County SO $600.00
