South Dakota CART Team Receives National Certification
PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that the South Dakota Child Abduction Response Team (CART) has received its certification from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Office of Justice Programs and Fox Valley Technical College. South Dakota CART is the fifth team in the country to achieve the important status.
Attorney General Jackley stated, “This certification is an acknowledgment of our CART team’s commitment and ability to react quickly when called upon to search for a missing child. Time is the key factor and having a method in place is vital in recovery.”
CART is a team of individuals from various agencies, jurisdictions and disciplines who are trained and prepared to respond to a missing, endangered or abducted child. This multi-agency team is designed to immediately mobilize and combine local, state and federal resources for the lead investigative agency when a child goes missing under suspicious circumstances.
South Dakota CART went through the certification process during a mock child abduction exercise and review of policy and procedures in Pierre, South Dakota in early September.
