PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that State Penitentiary inmate Esteven Cruz-Febus, 39, was sentenced today for aggravated assault against another inmate.

On April 7, 2017, Cruz-Febus and two co-defendants, Daniel Augustine and Christian Witt, assaulted an inmate in the recreational yard at the penitentiary. Cruz-Febus and the codefendants stomped, punched and kicked the victim in the head and body multiple times.  

Inmates Augustine and Witt previously pled and have been sentenced for this offense.

This case was investigated by Special Security at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
