Final Two Defendants Sentenced in Marshall County Sexual Abuse Case

 

PIERRE, S.D.  –    Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms the final two defendants in the Marshall County sexual abuse case have been sentenced.  

 

Michael Mejilla, 20, Britton, was sentenced to 10 years with 8.5 suspended on two counts of 4th degree rape and 10 years and 8.5 suspended on one count of solicitation of a minor. These sentences will run concurrent.

 

Dustin Purcell, 28, Britton, was sentenced to 10 years with 4 suspended on one count of fourth degree rape and 10 years with 4 suspended on two counts of possession of child pornography. These sentences will run concurrent.

 

“This case involved multiple defendants sexually abusing the same juvenile victim,” said Jackley. “Law enforcement worked tirelessly to identify and hold accountable those that had perpetrated the victim. Our thoughts remain with the victim and the victim’s family.”  

 

This case was investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by the Marshall County States Attorney and the Attorney General’s Office.
