PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that State Penitentiary inmate James Patrick Dornbusch, 25, was sentenced for assault against a department of corrections employee.
“Recognizing our prison system’s dual role of punishment with the opportunity for rehabilitation, inmates are expected to follow the prison rules and the law. I want to thank the prison staff for the dangerous work they do and for their assistance during this investigation,” said Jackley.
Dornbusch was sentenced to 10 years total on two counts with 4 suspended, all to run consecutive to his current sentence.
Dornbusch was convicted by a Minnehaha County Jury for an incident that occurred on September 20, 2016, where Dornbusch assaulted two correctional officers.
This case was investigated by Special Security at the Penitentiary and Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
