Lawrence County Correctional Officer and County Inmate Indicted on Conspiracy to Commit Escape

PIERRE, S.D.  – Attorney General Marty Jackey and Lawrence County States Attorney John Fitzgerald announced today that on September 5, 2018 a Lawrence Count Grand Jury indicted Tyler Statler, 24, an inmate at the Lawrence County Jail and Correctional Officer Koreena Schultes, 23, Spearfish, on one count each of conspiracy to commit escape, class 5 felony, punishable by up to 5 years in the state penitentiary and/or $10,000 fine. Statler is being held on a $10,000 bond.  

On August 13, 2018, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office received information regarding a jail security matter. An internal investigation revealed potential criminal activity. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office contacted the Division of Criminal Investigation for their assistance.

This case is being investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Lawrence County States Attorney’s Office.
