Attorney General’s Office Releases Pennington County Deputy Involved Shooting Summary

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of Matthew Lorenzen, 19, Rapid City, on November 30, 2018, in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation at the request of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

 

The incident occurred on November 30, when law enforcement attempted to initiate a traffic stop near South Highway 79 and Old Folsom Road in Rapid City, which resulted in a vehicle pursuit through areas of Box Elder and Rapid City. The incident continued to escalate resulted in a Pennington County Sheriff’s Deputy firing a duty weapon at the subject.  

 

“It is my conclusion as Attorney General that Deputy Christopher Plawman was justified in firing his weapon and using lethal force. I would like to thank the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the Deputy for their service and complete cooperation in this investigation,” stated Attorney General Jackley.
