PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg today announced the appointment of First Circuit Presiding Judge Cheryle Gering to serve on the South Dakota 24/7 Sobriety Program Advisory Board.
“Judge Gering has served South Dakota and the First Circuit from the bench for almost 8 years,” stated Ravnsborg. “She has firsthand experience with the 24/7 Sobriety Program that will prove invaluable as a member of the board.”
Judge Gering received her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota in 1988 and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa School of Law in 1991. She was appointed to the circuit court in 2011 by Governor Dennis Daugaard. She was appointed to the position of Presiding Judge of the First Circuit in 2017. The First Judicial Circuit covers Aurora, Bon Homme, Brule, Buffalo, Charles Mix, Clay, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hutchinson, McCook, Turner, Yankton and Union counties.
The 24/7 Sobriety Program began in 2005 as a pilot project. The Attorney General’s Office currently works with 67 participating agencies, including police departments, sheriff’s offices and the Unified Judicial System.ttom of Form
