PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg announced today the recommendation of Gregg Gass of De Smet, S.D. to the Board of Pardons and Paroles. Gass will fill the vacancy left by Anne Hajek, effective February 1, 2019.

“Gregg brings years of experience, a strong sense of fairness, and a concern for public safety to this position,” said Ravnsborg, “and that makes him well-suited to serve South Dakota on the Board of Pardons and paroles.”

Gregg Gass is a graduate of the University of South Dakota School of Law and has practiced law in South Dakota for over 25 years. He has served as a Deputy State’s Attorney in Pennington County and as State’s Attorney in Kingsbury County since 2009.  He has been the Casualty Claims Manager at De Smet Farm Mutual and has also served on church and school boards as well as spending time on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee and the Solo and Small Firm State Bar Committee.

“I also want to extend my appreciation to Anne Hajek for her dedicated service on the Parole Board. She has been a strong leader in protecting our communities,” added Ravnsborg.

The Board of Pardons and Paroles is a nine-member appointed board charged with the authority to make decisions of parole, the revocation of parole, and parole policy and procedures. Three of the board members are appointed by the Governor of South Dakota, three are appointed by the South Dakota Attorney General, and the remaining three are appointed by the South Dakota Supreme Court.
This appointment is subject to final confirmation by the South Dakota Senate.
