PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg announced today that a Yankton County Grand Jury indicted Stephen R. Falkenberg, 45, Yankton, on one count of 2nd Degree Murder, a class B felony, punishable by mandatory life imprisonment and up to $50,000 in fines; and one count of 1st degree Manslaughter, a class C felony, punishable by up to life imprisonment and up to $50,000 in fines.
Charges stem from the March 1, 2019 death of 46-year old Tamara LaFramboise of Yankton. La Framboise’s body was discovered in Menominee County, Michigan, on March 16, 2019.
Falkenberg is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
The investigation is being spearheaded by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Yankton Police Department, the FBI, and Michigan authorities. The case is being prosecuted by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
