Aberdeen Man Found Guilty and Sentenced in Andover Apartment Fire Case

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg and Day County States Attorney Danny R. Smeins announced today that Jose Anibal Quinones Rodriguez, 37, Aberdeen, has been found guilty, following a court trial before Fifth Circuit Judge Richard Sommers, of the following crimes:
•  First Degree Murder,
•  Second Degree Murder,
•  First Degree Arson,
•  Commission of Felony While Armed With a Firearm,
•  Aggravated Assault/Domestic Violence, 
Rodriguez was sentenced to life in the state penitentiary on the murder conviction, 25 years in the state penitentiary for the arson conviction, 25 years for the conviction of committing a felony while armed with a firearm and 15 years for the conviction of aggravated assault/domestic violence.  The sentences will be served concurrently.
The conviction results from incidents which occurred in Andover between February 8 and February 9, 2018, involving the shooting death of Tawny Rockwood and a structure fire at her place of residence.
This case was prosecuted by Day County State’s Attorney Danny R. Smeins and Assistant Attorney General Kelly Marnette.  The case was investigated by the Day County Sheriff's Office, Aberdeen Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, State Fire Marshall’s Office, ATF, the FBI CAST Team, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
