Mitchell Woman Sentenced in Assisted Living Center Drug Case
PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Larry Long said today that Terry Lee Pierson, 46, formerly of Mitchell, was sentenced to thirty months in the South Dakota State Penitentiary on one count of Obtaining Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class 4 Felony.
Pierson, an employee at an assisted living center, stole prescription painkillers from Medicaid recipients living at the facility. Discrepancies in resident prescriptions triggered the investigation. In addition to the Penitentiary sentence, Pierson was ordered to pay restitution and costs.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Richard Williams, in cooperation with the Mitchell Police Department and the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
