Barnett Announces Consumer Recoveries

(PIERRE) – Attorney General Mark Barnett announced today that his Division of Consumer Protection recovered $1,584,725 for South Dakota consumers this past fiscal year, July 1, 2000 to June 30, 2001. The Division investigated 2,024 complaints, and closed 1,987 files.

"It is easy for people to fall prey to the cunning tactics of these scam artists," Barnett said. "Our goal is to offer as much protection as we can for the citizens of South Dakota. The Consumer Protection Division provides a valuable service."
