ATTORNEY GENERAL LARRY LONG NAMES DIVISION OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION RESERVE UNIT

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Larry Long announced today that nine law enforcement officers will be sworn in as part of a newly created Division of Criminal Investigation Reserve Unit. The DCI Reserve Unit was approved by the Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training Commission on March 24, 2004. These individuals were chosen because of their experience in law enforcement and have over 180 years of law enforcement experience between them. The Reserve Unit was established to support the Division of Criminal Investigation during those times when extra assistance is a necessity. In addition, the working time donated by the reserves will be a significant savings of money to the State of South Dakota. “With many of our local law enforcement being called up to active duty it is important to have the extra assistance to rely upon”, said Long. “These individuals have volunteered their time and expertise which is invaluable to our office and the state.” Those reserve agents who were selected include Marc E. Boddicker, John Boersma, Bernard W. Christenson, Fred Devaney, Christopher M. Grant, James L. Hansen, Douglas L. Quarve, John J. Wenande and William Whelchel. Attorney General Long will be in attendance for the swearing in which will be held on Monday, June 28th at 12:30 p.m. in Seventh Circuit Court in Rapid City. For additional information regarding the reserve unit please contact Sara Rabern at 605-773-3215.
