Attorney General Larry Long Responds to Humane Farming Allegations

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Larry Long has posted a letter to his website regarding the Humane Farming Association’s allegations that his office did not investigate Sun Prairie Hog Farms.

In the fall of 2003, Humane Farming Association forwarded a complaint including photographs and video tapes to Attorney General Long regarding alleged abuse at the Sun Prairie Farm hog confinement. Attorney General Long assembled a team of experts who investigated and found no merit in the complaint. In June of 2004, Humane Farming placed ads in local newspapers in South Dakota claiming that the Attorney General’s Office did not investigate. These ads contributed to several South Dakotans contacting Long’s office and he responded to each inquiry.

Because a similar ad has again been recently published, Attorney General Long has posted his July 2004 letter of response.
