Arrest Made in South Dakota Cold Case
PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Larry Long said today that David L. Lykken, 52, Sioux Falls was indicted Friday on 2 counts of premeditated murder, 2 counts of felony murder and 2 counts of murder. The indictment charges that Lykken murdered Cheryl Miller and Pamella Jackson on or about May 29, 1971. The charges were issued by the Union County Grand Jury. He was arrested yesterday at the South Dakota penitentiary where he has been incarcerated since 1990 for a rape conviction in Clay County. Arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Monday, July 9 at the Union County Courthouse.
The case is being jointly investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation, the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Cold Case Unit of the Attorney General’s Office and the case will be prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Rod Oswald and the Union County States Attorney Jerry Miller.
