Attorney General Long Appoints New DCI Director
PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Larry Long announced today that Bryan Gortmaker has been named the new Director of the Division of Criminal Investigation. Gortmaker, native of Brandon, South Dakota, began his law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Minnehaha Sheriff’s Office in 1988 while he worked on his criminal justice degree at Augustana College. Upon graduation he accepted a Special Agent position with the Division of Criminal Investigation. In 2002 he was promoted to Director of Law Enforcement Training and most recently held an Assistant Director position. He and his wife Brenda make their home in Pierre with their three daughters.
Current Director, Jim Vlahakis will retire from the DCI on June 9, 2008 and Gortmaker will assume the duties on June 10th.
