Long Takes Part in National Effort to Combat Underage Drinking

South Dakota’s Attorney General is participating in a national campaign to combat underage drinking.  The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization that is funded by distillers across the country, says research it conducted showed 65% of youth surveyed said they have acquired alcohol from family and friends, either with or without their permission.  The organization’s research also showed that 96% of adults say it is unacceptable for another parent or adult to provide alcohol to their teenager without their permission.  A.G. Larry Long has recorded a thirty second public service announcement which encourages parents to play an active role in keeping alcohol out of the hands of South Dakota youth.  The PSA’s are being released before the start of a national effort called “We Don’t Serve Teens Week”, which starts September 10.  For more information on the nationwide campaign, visit the website http://www.dontserveteens.gov/
