Attorney General Mark Barnett Distributes $30,000 In Toys Across South Dakota
(Pierre) – Attorney General Mark Barnett announced that his office is distributing $30,000 worth of toys to children across the state.
The toys were awarded to the state as part of a 4-year old antitrust settlement with Hasbro, Mattel, Little Tikes and Toys R Us. South Dakota received over 130-thousand dollars in cash and toys over the last four years. South Dakota was among 44 states involved in the original settlement.
The organizations receiving the toys this year include Children’s Care Hospital, Sioux Falls; Children’s Home, Sioux Falls; Sioux Falls Salvation Army; Children’s Care Hospital, Rapid City; Black Hills Children’s Home; Rapid City Regional Hospital; Toys for Tots, Mitchell; United Sioux Tribes of Pierre, Pierre Indian Learning Center, the Standing Rock Reservation, and the Belle Fourche Community Council for Education.
Barnett said “I always enjoy the toy distribution, it puts smiles on the faces of a lot of kids. It is an opportunity for us to get Christmas presents to kids who may not get any.”
This is the last year of the toy distribution because the terms of the settlement have been fulfilled.
