Attorney General Mark Barnett Announces South Dakota Receives Another Tobacco Settlement Payment of $6.7 Million Dollars
(Pierre) – Attorney General Mark Barnett announces that South Dakota received another payment of $6,783,154 on December 31st, 2001. This payment is from the 1998 Tobacco Settlement that his office negotiated on behalf of the state. The $206 billion settlement is between 44 states and the tobacco industry. Under the settlement South Dakota will receive an estimated $748 million.
So far the state has received about $57 million in payments from the settlement. The next payment will be received in April 2002.
