PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation Forensic Lab has reached a Memorandum of Agreement with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which will allow these two agencies to work closely with each other on federal crimes that occur in South Dakota.
This Memorandum of Agreement went into effect on August 1, 2010, and outlines that the FBI will provide funding for two full-time employees in the DCI forensic laboratory, including equipment and supplies. In return, the DCI forensic laboratory will test and assist with forensic evidence submitted by FBI agents in South Dakota.
“This agreement will allow for a quicker turnaround time for processing of evidence for crimes that occur in South Dakota,” said Jackley. “The benefits of this agreement are substantial for all involved. Investigators will be able to work more efficiently and victims of these crimes will be better served.”
