PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Robert County State’s Attorney Kerry Cameron state that Joseph Thomas Hansen, 18, of Claire City, SD, has been arrested for a violating the state’s statute surrounding explosive devices – SDCL 22-14A-13. On 8-23-2010, a concerned citizen relayed to the Sisseton Police Department School Resource Officer information involving school and public safety. As a part of the investigation, several items have been seized, including weapons, ammunition and various components that are used in making dangerous devices. Unauthorized possession of substances with intent to make destructive device is a class 5 felony, punishable up to 5 years in prison and $5000.00 fine.
Hansen is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case was a concerted effort by Sisseton Police Department, Roberts County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Criminal Investigation, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Sioux Falls Police Department and the Roberts County State’s Attorney.
“This incident serves as an important reminder for students, parents, and school officials to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement,” said Attorney General Marty Jackley.
