Attorney General and Law Enforcement Training Commission to Seek Tribal Member Position

PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Marty J. Jackley announces that the Attorney General intends to seek legislative approval to create a tribal member position for the Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission (LEOSTC).   On November 17th, 2010, the LEOSTC endorsed the decision to increase the Commission with a tribal member seat.

The LEOSTC is comprised of ten members, seven of whom are appointed by the Attorney General.  The Commission oversees the certification of law enforcement officers across South Dakota including state, local, as well as many federal and tribal officers.   The Commission sets the training standards and certification process for the South Dakota law enforcement community.

“A tribal member position will strengthen the training and certification process by providing additional perspective and experience on public safety matters that will benefit all law enforcement officers,” stated Attorney General Jackley.
