South Dakotans Asked to Participate in Observing National Missing Children’s Day

PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley is asking South Dakotans to take part in the observation of National Missing Children’s Day on Wednesday, May 25, 2011.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has dedicated this annual event for missing children since 1983. The organization wants parents to know there are things they can do to keep their children safe, and it urges parents to take a few minutes and review the safety tips which are part of the NCMEC’s Take 25 national safety campaign. The tips can be found at the www.take25.org/page.asp?page=50.

“Children are our future, please take a few minutes on May 25th to review the safety tips on keeping your child safe and take the time to remember those children who are still missing,” said Jackley.

South Dakota’s Child Abduction Response Team (CART) was created in 2006, and in 2009 became the 5th team in the nation to be certified. CART is a multi-jurisdictional team of South Dakota law enforcement professionals with specialized training in abducted/missing children investigations that can be brought in to assist with an abducted child investigation. The team is in place and ready to respond when needed.
