Portland Man Sentenced in Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute Case
PIERRE, S.D. –Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that Darrell Wayne Hughes, 49, Portland, OR, was sentenced to serve 6 years, with no jail suspended, on one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a class 3 felony.
Charges stemmed from a traffic stop on Interstate 90 in Pennington County, which resulted in the discovery of 374 pounds of marijuana.
“This is the second significant possession with intent to distribute conviction and sentence in less than two weeks,” said Jackley. “These two arrests resulted in the seizure of over 1,300 lbs. of marijuana with a street value of approximately 3 million dollars. We will continue to send the message that the transportation of drugs in South Dakota will not be tolerated and law enforcement will continue to work diligently to keep these drugs off the streets.”
This case was investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team and was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
