Attorney General Jackley to Serve as Vice Chair of Conference of Western Attorneys General and Co-Chair of National Association of Attorneys General Committees
PIERRE, S.D - Attorney General Marty Jackley has been selected to serve as Vice Chair of the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG). CWAG addresses emerging legal topics and common areas of interest to the west including water, fish and wildlife, public lands, minerals, environment and Indian law. Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto is serving as Chair, and Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden as 2nd Vice Chair.
Attorney General Jackley has also been selected to serve as a Co-Chair of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) Tobacco Advisory Committee along with Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster. The Tobacco Co-Chairs also serve as Ex-Officio members of the National Association of Attorneys General Executive Committee. The Tobacco Committee works on the implementation and enforcement of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) that the states entered into with the major tobacco companies. Projected payments due to the states under the MSA are between $6.5 and $7 billion dollars annually, with South Dakota’s share being approximately 27 million dollars annually.
Attorney General Jackley will also continue to serve as one of the Co-Chairs of the NAAG Criminal Law Committee. The Criminal Law Committee provides support to State Attorneys General as it relates to public safety, law enforcement, and legislative issues.
“I am honored to work with my colleagues in these areas which will assist me to identify and address issues that directly impact South Dakota,” said Jackley.
