PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley and Charles Mix County States Attorney Pam Hein said today that Laurie Cournoyer, 28, Wagner has been indicted and charged with one count of unauthorized possession of controlled substance, methamphetamine, class 4 felony, maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and/or a $20,000 fine, one count of possession of certain unauthorized articles in jail, class 6 felony, maximum penalty of 2 years imprisonment and/or $4,000 fine, and one count of ingesting an intoxicating substance, methamphetamine, class 1 misdemeanor.
Other charges against Cournoyer are still pending. She has been charged with one count of abuse or cruelty to a minor as a felony, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment and/or a $30,000 fine and failure to notify law enforcement of death of child, class 5 felony, punishable by up to 5 years and/or $10,000 fine. Motions hearing date for this case is scheduled for Friday, October 26th, 1:30 p.m. in Charles Mix County.
Cournoyer is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
