PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of Rachel Coleman on October 17, 2012, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Division of Criminal Investigation, assisted by the Sioux Falls Police Department conducted the investigation at the request of the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on October 17, 2012, following an attempted traffic stop in Sioux Falls. “It is the conclusion of this report and the Attorney General that Trooper Andrew Steen, Lincoln County Deputy Aaron Bartscher and Lincoln County Deputy Tom Krull were justified in firing their weapons and using lethal force,” stated Attorney General Jackley.
“We received the finding of the Attorney General’s investigation. We were confident that our troopers acted in a professional and appropriate manner. Obviously, for the Highway Patrol, the continued recovery of Trooper Andrew Steen remains our priority,” said Colonel Craig Price.
The Attorney General would like to thank the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Officers for their service and complete cooperation in this investigation.
