Two Sets of Term Fetus Remains Recovered in Rural Deuel County

  Two Sets of Term Fetus Remains Recovered in Rural Deuel County

 
PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office continue investigating the discovery of bones found in a rural Deuel County shelter belt.   A cooler with decomposed tissue and bones was discovered on November 2nd, 2012.    The remains recovered belong to a term fetus.   A second set of remains recovered outside of the cooler belong to a second term fetus.   Expert reports indicate that each skeletal is that of a term fetus, viable outside the uterus, approximately 40 weeks gestational age.    

“Due to the circumstances surrounding and the nature in which the remains were discovered, the case is being treated as an open homicide investigation,” said Jackley.  “Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance for any information that may assist law enforcement in this investigation.”
