Attorney General Larry Long’s Consumer Protection Division to Join National Organizations to Sponsor Seventh Annual National Consumer Protection Week
PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Larry Long’s Consumer Protection Division has joined a group of federal, state and local agencies and national advocacy organizations to launch the seventh annual National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), February 6-12, highlighting consumer protection and education efforts around the country. This year’s theme, "Identity Theft: When Fact Becomes Fiction," focuses on minimizing the risk of identity theft and taking fast action to contain any harm, if an identity thief strikes.
"Identity Theft has become an increasingly popular crime in the United States" said Long. "Our goal for National Consumer Protection Week is to help educate consumers and provide them with the knowledge to recognize this fraud and lessen the chance that they might fall victim to it."
During NCPW, the South Dakota Consumer Protection Division will offer identity theft tips on their website at http://atg.sd.gov/Consumers.aspx. Various topics of identity theft will be the focus throughout the entire week.
