South Dakota Forensic Lab

The South Dakota Forensic Lab (SDFL) provides scientific services to all law enforcement officers in the state, including federal and tribal agencies, at no cost. We provide service in Biology, Fingerprints, Firearms and Toolmarks, Trace evidence, Crime Scene and Shooting incident re-construction. We also oversee the state's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a database made up of forensic and offender DNA samples managed by the FBI. We are a fully accredited Forensic Lab, and strive to maintain the highest standards of quality assurance in our scientific work product. We also value customer service, and building relationships with our customers across the state. By forging those relationships, we can better measure our success at providing customers with high quality forensic services, accurately reported, in an appropriate amount of time. This ensures the citizens receive high quality work from the lab, while allowing us to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us.
